چکیده

Social learning theory studies the mechanisms by which an agent learns from its interactions with conspecific agents. Examples of social learning can be found in the animal kingdom, and especially in primate societies, whereby, for instance, one agent learns new skills by the observation and imitation of another agent’s behaviour. At present there is no widely agreed definition of imitation existing in the animal and human psychology literature. The variety of defAdaptive Behavior 1999, 7(3), 411-434

A Case-Based Approach To Imitation Learning in Robotic Agents

Learning by imitation is an essential process in human cognition. Recently, imitation learning has also become important in robotics research. We address the problem of learning by imitation in interactive, robotic agents using case-based reasoning. We describe two tasks for which case-based reasoning may be used: (i) interpretation, in which the robot interprets new skill demonstrations as bei...

Imitation: a Means to Enhance Learning of a Synthetic Proto-language in an Autonomous Robot

This paper addresses the role of imitation as a means to enhance the learning of communication skills in autonomous robots. A series of robotic experiments are presented in which autonomous mobile robots are taught a synthetic proto-language. Learning of the language occurs through an imitative scenario where the robot replicates the teacher's movements. Imitation is here an implicit attentiona...

Synchrony and perception in robotic imitation across embodiments

Social robotics opens up the possibility of individualized social intelligence in member robots of a community, and allows us to harness not only individual learning by the individual robot, but also the acquisition of new skills by observing other members of the community (robot, human, or virtual). We describe ALICE (Action Learning for Imitation via Correspondences between Embodiments), an i...

Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning

In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...

On the emergence of structure in behaviours evolved through embodied imitation in a group of robots

This paper describes research in which we model social interactions between artificial agents using real robots. We show that variations that arise from embodiment allow certain behaviours, those that are more robust to the processes of embodied imitation, to emerge and evolve during multiple cycles of imitation. We test 3 memory strategies: no memory, limited memory and unlimited memory, and e...
